Montgenèvre

Montgenevre is celebrating her 100th birthday this year!! In 1895 two Norwegian soldiers turned up and showed the French how to ski, the practice spread throughout the area and on the 9-13th February 1907 Montgenevre played host to her first International Ski Competition! More than 3000 spectators came from all over Europe to cheer on the champions and France’s first ski resort was born.
By 1936 Mongenevre had installed its first ski tow and the resort became THE place to be seen if you were a Parisian in the 30’s and 40’s.
Montgenevre will be celebrating it’s Centenary by going back through it’s past. Throughout the season there will be many events such as a show of traditional costumes, a classic car meeting and the restoration of the ski jump where Durban Hansen accomplished a 26m jump in 1930!
